Lucida’s Margaret Snowdon is awarded OBE for her contribution to pensioners

Margaret Snowdon, Operations Director of Lucida, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for Services to Pensioners in the 2010 New Year’s Honours List. 

The OBE recognises Margaret’s voluntary work in pensions for the last 25 years.  In particular, it cites her recent work as Chairman of the Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS) in which she overcame obstacles to introduce significant changes to the organisation to ensure it is well placed to meet the demands for information on pensions to the public over the next decade. TPAS provides free information and guidance to over one million members of the public each year and will reach many more in the years ahead. Margaret stepped down as Chairman of TPAS on 31 December 2009, but continues as a volunteer Adviser and Regional Organiser.

Margaret’s other voluntary work has included the Pensions Management Institute, where she served as a Vice President, the Pensions Policy Institute where she is a Governor and the Financial Reporting Council’s Actuarial User Committee.  She is also a special adviser to the Raising Standards of Administration group.

Margaret said, “I am deeply honoured.  I have worked in pensions for thirty years and I enjoy being able to give something back to others.  Pensions is vital part of our economy, yet a very complicated subject for professionals, let alone the man in the street.  I am glad to be able to help.

I am fortunate that Lucida allows me time to help others and that my husband Michael provides lots of support, never complaining about evenings, weekends and holidays given up.”
